Being a boudoir photographer in Las Vegas has really opened up a whole new world for me. I’ve been photographing boudoir for years but here there are SO many opportunities for locations to shoot in. But why would a woman schedule a boudoir shoot in the first place? Let’s have a conversation about what boudoir is and why someone would want to do this type of shoot.
Pronounced bood-war, the word “boudoir” itself is of French origin which means a woman’s private sitting room. The room originated originally as a space to retire to or be alone in.
The style behind a boudoir shoot can take on many different forms. Usually the shoot itself is located in the photographer’s studio, a luxury hotel suite, and sometimes outdoors. The best description of a boudoir photo shoot is that the model is photographed in various styles of lingerie with candid shots taken as well as posed. Portraying the model’s personality through the images and capturing her sensuality. Nudity is more often than not implied showing a more artistic affect but nude photos can be taken as well in boudoir style photo shoots.
According to HuffPost Boudoir Photography came into its own in the 1920’s. During this time it was illegal for nudity to be in photographs. But certain photographers like Albert Arthur Allen found a way around this as he continued to photograph women in romantic ways. I absolutely love the quote on the above link by Albert Arthur Allen. He basically believed that everyone was the same under their clothes. And that their personality and brain is what would and should make them stand out. During his time, his photographs were often considered obscene by many, though he thought completely otherwise. How odd it is to think that the human body is an obscene thing.
There are many reasons why a woman would consider scheduling a boudoir photo shoot, especially in Las Vegas. But I’ll focus on my favorite reason.
Often times I will speak to a woman who is interested in a boudoir shoot but she has so many excuses as to why she won’t do it yet. I’m not pretty enough. Let me lose weight first. There’s no one to give them to. I don’t deserve anything like that.
After a little encouragement I can see that deep down she really wants to do this shoot so we talk more and she decides to schedule. She comes into the hotel suite very nervous and just unsure of herself and her body. She already is convincing herself that she’s not going to like her images. But after some more talking and laughing and posing, she becomes more comfortable as we go through her boudoir photo shoot. She ends up leaving that hotel suite with a new sense of confidence gained from this boudoir shoot. She realizes that she does deserve to do things for herself and although she may still be apprehensive about how she looks, she’s headed in the direction of loving herself more. I send her a gallery of her images and she is blown away. She never expected to see herself so beautiful. She loves the images.
This transformation is why I photograph boudoir. I love helping women see how truly beautiful they really are right now. That she doesn’t have to change a thing about herself to be deserving of something like this. It’s really a beautiful thing to see.
And now she has amazing images of herself to cherish forever and pass on for generations. If she’s feeling sad she can look back on these images and remember how on that day she put herself first. And what a great time she had. She’s will be reminded each time she looks at these images that she is beautiful, she is strong, she is loved, and she is worth it.
Many women don’t schedule a Las Vegas Boudoir Photo shoot because they aren’t sure what to do with the images. My packages all include digital images so that you’ll always have those to safely store on your computer. But what many people love doing is putting their boudoir images in an album. This way you can hide it if you need to, or put it on display if you’d like. You can present the album as a gift, and what better gift is there than the gift of you? So that is the option that most of my clients go for. The 20 page album with 20 of your favorite images.
I have had a couple of clients who have also ordered a canvas print or two and hang them in their bedroom or even their bathroom. The possibilities really are endless. The point is, do the shoot. Do the boudoir shoot so that in 20 years from now you can look back on these images and be so happy that you did! Life goes by way too fast to wait.
If you would like to see more of my boudoir work you can do so in my boudoir gallery Please contact me to book your boudoir shoot! I’d love to set it up for you and talk with you about your why behind it.
