Professional hair and makeup on your wedding day can make or break your day. If you’re trying to find the right one for you then maybe I can give you a little insight. Being in Las Vegas there are Hair and Makeup artists literally everywhere. But the cool thing is, most if not all of them travel. So if you’re flying into Las Vegas to get married and are staying in a hotel on the strip for example, many of these artists will come meet you in your room. You can use your room then for where you and your bridesmaids all get ready together.
Make sure whoever you choose to do your hair and makeup does trial runs. It’s so nice to go in before the actual day and have your hair and makeup done. You will definitely want to see what it will look like on your wedding day. Typically a stylist will set the bride to be up near a window or an area where natural light is coming in. And if you think about it, this is genius. Where are you going to be for the better portion of your day? Especially here in Las Vegas? A majority of the weddings I photograph are outdoors. So for a majority of the time you’ll have natural light hitting your skin. So when you have your makeup applied, you’ll want to be right in front of that natural light.
There’s so many things to consider when hiring a hair and makeup artist for your wedding. But do your research, make sure you can go in for a trial run. This can also help you get to know your stylist better so you are more comfortable on your wedding day. And definitely look for referrals. I work with some amazing hair and makeup artists and I actually had the opportunity to photograph a stylist the other day.
Every once in a while I get to do head shots for aspiring models. This time I got to meet with Kiki who is a professional makeup artist in Las Vegas but is also a model. She needed some images to submit to other modeling agencies so we got together and did a little bit of head shots and a little bit of boudoir.
Kiki found me on Instagram and we connected right away. We had great conversation as we went through her shoot talking about what she ultimately wanted to do and where she wants to end up. She knows Vegas isn’t her final home but she would love to model and do makeup for people all over the place.
You can find Kiki on Instagram under the hashtag #kikionthebeatbeauty Makeup is her specialty and she does amazing work. If you’re in need of a professional hair stylist then stay tuned for a new blog post. I’ll be talking about stylists who I work with and where you can find them. I work with some amazing stylists and would definitely refer you to all of them.
Take a look at some more of Kiki’s images from her shoot. And if you’d like to learn more about boudoir photography and what it is, check out this blog post. It will explain where Boudoir came from, what it means, and why you should do a Boudoir Shoot.
