When welcoming a new baby in the family Cole was as excited as ever. He quickly learned how to be the best big brother.
It brought me back to when our son was two years old and we had our daughter. I remember him being super excited and of course we had to teach him to be gentle with her. It’s always cute to see that interaction between an older sibling and a new baby.
I went over to Courtney’s house in Rochester, Washington and we settled in for some indoor lifestyle newborn/family photos at home. What a beautiful home they have! Big windows letting all of this natural light in and gorgeous hardwood floors. Plus a backyard with a trampoline of course! Cole led me around the house with his own little camera on is iPad as he took photos of the moments right along with me. He was always super excited too whenever I needed to pose him holding his little sister. You can tell that’s the job that he loves the most.
I just got really lucky in that this family reached out to me. I’ve said it so many times before I love my job, but being able to meet and connect and spend an hour or so with these people that I get to photograph is really what I love. It also helps me to know how best to capture them with my camera. There’s so much more to pointing and clicking. I look through a lens and can see a story unfold and every time I know just how I want to tell it based on getting to know the people I’m photographing. It’s really wonderful and I love it!
I was doing a bit of research about siblings and how they affect our growing up. I have four siblings that I grew up with and we are all girls as well as the fact that all of our names start with the letter A. I always laugh about how my mom would forget whose name she was calling and would call a few of us at a time. Siblings definitely shape the person you’re going to become. As I found at kindsintha.com siblings can also help you to communicate better. This makes sense to me but even though I had four sisters it took me a while to be a good communicator. I struggle with it sometimes especially if it’s something really important. I always feel the tears coming and I hate crying in front of people. But I’ll save that for another blog post.
Did you grow up with siblings? How did you do when welcoming a new baby in the family? Tell me about your relationship with them! Did you get along at a certain time in your life and not in another? How are you doing together now as adults? My sibling family tree is very complicated so I’ll also save that for another blog post ha!
For now, take a look at this beautiful sibling relationship blossoming before our eyes! Courtney’s friend Amanda referred her to me to take these photos. You may remember Amanda from this blog post with her pups.
